Entered into the printing and
publishing career at the age of 15.Started publishing Mangalam
Weekly in 1969. Mangalam Weekly smashed the record in Indian
Journalism with circulation figure of 1.5 million. |

Mangalam Group of Publications
took initiated in organizing dowry -free community marriage for the
economically and socially depressed women in Kerala apart from
literacy campaign. |

The Mangalam Readers' Cancer
Ward at Kottayam Medical College was built by the readers'
participation. The weekly could raise a considerable amount from its
readers by increasing the price of the weekly by 10 paise for four
weeks consecutively. This is the first of its kind in Indian
Journalism. |

The weekly continues its charity
service by finding out the financially weak and the depressed people
for providing financial aid collected as readers' contribution.
Mangalam has also constructed and gave away houses for the homeless
in various parts of the State. |

Leadership training for the
youth and social service activities are done through 'Mangalam
Kalasahithyavedi'. The youth association sponsored by Mangalam Kala
Sahithya Vedi is having more than 1500 units and 1,00,000
volunteers. |

Mangalam also sponsored Women's
Club, Teachers Forum, Children's Club International , Mangalam
Orchestra and Film Club. |

Established Mangalam Foundation
which runs Mangalam English Medium Residential High School and
Mangalam B.Ed. College. The High School has a record of 100% pass in
Secondary Exam since 1988 and some rank holders in the state belong

Twenty nine years may too be
short a period in the history of a journals. Yet, during this short
span of time, Mangalam's trial blazing endeavors could leave
indelible impressions on the page of history and testify the
constructive role of journalism in the pursuit of social service. |

Mangalam was started in 1969
with a mearage circulation of 250 copies. The growth was
unbelievable as it was climbing peaks over peaks. In 1984 when the
circulation covered an incredible figure of 1.5 million copies, it
was an all time record in the history of Indian Journalism |

| DOWRY
LESS COMMUNITY MARRIAGE |

It was
Mangalam Weekly which is led by M. C. Varghese which heralded the
powerful movement in Kerala against the evils of dowry system. The
first dowry less - Community Marriage organized by Mangalam in 1980
at Kottayam was the first shot fired in Kerala in the war against
the monster of dowry, which was destroying the happiness of many
innocent girls in our country. |

Mangalam
has organized ten such community marriage in various places in
Kerala, including one at New Delhi. Mr.; R. Venkitaraman the then
vice President of India was the chief guest of the community
marriage conducted at New Delhi on May 10, 1985. The State
Government of Kerala itself later took the inspiration from Mangalam
and arranged the first Government sponsored Dowry less Mass Marriage
in the State. |

| HELPING
HAND FOR THE SUFFERING |

Exhorting
through the columns of the weekly, Mangalam started collecting
generous donations from the readers from all the world. And abroad
for victims of accidents, natural calamities and social neglect.
Through its regular column tittles 'Victims of Cruel Fate' the
weekly has so far collected donations worth ten of lakhs of rupees
and distributed among more than 1000 deserving people. |

| MANGALAM
READERS' CANCER WARD |

There
is a ward named Mangalam Readers' Cancer Ward at kottayam Medical
College. Mangalam raised more than rupees eighty and a half lakhs
from its readers by increasing the price of weekly by ten paise for
four weeks consecutively during the September 1988 to construct this
ward. Those little drops made an ocean when many of the readers sent
their generous donation also. This was rare contribution to the
society by M.C. Varghese. |

TO THE YOUTH |

Not
only through the weekly and other publications, but through a
variety of projects the Mangalam Group has contributed for the
development of arts and culture. The Mangalam Kala Sahithya Vedi an
Organization form under the patronage of the Chief Editor for
promotion of arts, literature and social service activities, has now
grown into a world wide organization doing credible service in
various fields. |

Kala
Sahithya Vedi conducts art festivals, seminars, public meetings,
medical camps, national integration camps, campaigns against the
evils of drugs and alcohol, athletic meets etc. in all parts of the
country to promote national integration. |

Kanyaka
Mahila Vedi is an organization meant for women and Balamanglam
Kalavedi for children. |

| HOME
FOR THE HOMELESS |
 |
 |
Mangalam
has also introduced a scheme to construct home for the home less
when Mangalam crossed its circulation of 15 lakh copies in 1985. It
was celebrated in a humble way by constructing 15 houses in various
parts of the State and distributing it to the needy poorest people
free of cost. |

Mangalam
Homes & Resorts Pvt. Ltd has launched the Project of apartments
and shopping complexes target at Non Resident Indians. |
